Words Didn't Get in the Way

We continue to be amazed at the beautiful photographs submitted by Gerald Pope Photography. You may remember Greg and Gina from a previous post called Unveiled which showed fun ways to integrate a long veil into your photographs ... well, Greg and Gina are back and we couldn't be happier about it!

Our Senior Editor, Heather Sharpe is also very excited, as this was a wedding she coordinated last summer. Greg and Gina were married up at the Golf Club at Newcastle and their wedding had a very modern and classic feel to it. What we especially loved was the way the Greg proposed to Gina ... in the New York Times crossword puzzle!!! We are glad that Gina knew all the right words to fill that one in :)

We contacted Airika and Gerald Pope to find out their inspiration and what made Greg and Gina such great clients to work with. Here is what they had to say:

Q: What made Greg and Gina such a fabulous couple to photograph?

A: From the moment we met Gina & Greg, we knew that they were going to be a joy to work with. They were fun, loving, and easy-going. They appreciated us as artists and trusted us 100% to tell the story of their wedding day. In the months leading up to their wedding, we had several opportunities to get to know them, and by developing a relationship through their engagement session and pre-wedding consultation, we were able to create imagery that uniquely reflected their style and personality. Documenting Gina and Greg's wedding was a wonderful experience - we couldn't have asked for more!

Q: What is your favorite part about weddings at Newcastle?

A: We were so excited when Gina & Greg told us that they had picked Newcastle for their wedding! The views of the forests, lakes, and cities that it offers are unparalleled—they are the perfect backdrop for a wedding! Not only that, but you would be hard pressed to find a better place to watch the sun set over the Puget Sound. Plain and simple, it is one of the most stunning wedding venues in Seattle.

Q: What advice can you give couples who are considering what type of photography they feel fits their weddings best?

A: Looking through a photographer's online portfolio is a great way to get a feel for their style and approach to photography, but meeting in person (or via skype as we do with many of our destination wedding clients) is a must for discerning how you will relate to them. When viewing a photographer's portfolio, try to pay attention to the kind of images you are drawn to…do you connect better with black & white or color images? Are you drawn in by emotional moments, or do you prefer more formal posed shots? Is a natural look more "you," or do you get excited about the idea of creating fashion-inspired wedding imagery? If the photographer has a blog, be sure to look through that as well, as it is usually updated more often than their website. Once you've found a few photographers whose style you connect with, contact them to arrange a meeting. Chances are that you will spend more time with your photographer than almost anyone else (except for your spouse!) on your wedding day. Use that meeting to really get to know them and discern if they're someone that you would enjoy sharing one of the most important days of your life with. If the photographer's quality, style, and personality are a fit, then hire them! Finding the right photographer make take some work, but after all, these are some of most important photographs that you will ever have taken!

Q: What was the most memorable part of the day for you, regarding Greg and Gina's wedding?

A: One of our favorite parts of the wedding day is when the bride & groom see each other for the first time. We found the perfect spot for Gina & Greg's first look, and after hours of preparation, they were finally dressed and ready to see each other. As Gina rounded the corner, and Greg turned to see his bride for the first time, the wind literally lifted her veil into the air! It was an exhilarating start to a beautiful and joy-filled day!

Are you inspired to have a wedding like Greg and Gina? All decor and floral arrangements were by Rented Elegance and Design and their gorgeous five tiered cake was by Creme de la Creme.
